PCMag.com's Last-Minute Super Bowl Viewing Tips

The big game is only days away. And whether you're rooting for the New Orleans Saints of the Indianapolis Colts, you want to make sure that your flat screen is fired up and ready to go for Super Bowl XLIV. With that in mind, PCMag.com offers six must-know tips for Sunday.

  1. Make sure your set-top box is set to deliver 1080i. Too many people are watching HDTV in 480P or 720P and don’t even know it.
  2. Get the right cables. If you’re watching HDTV through composite or even component cables, upgrade to HDMI now for the best possible picture.
  3. If you plan on DVR-ing the game, clean out your DVR so you don’t run out of space. HD content eats up DVR space fast and the whole Super Bowl extravaganza is around 6 hours.
  4. Have a backup plan. If you’re watching on Satellite and live in the mid Atlantic, make sure that snow and ice are not covering your dish
  5. Get your laptop ready or download a widget. People will be adding Facebook updates and Tweeting throughout the game. Get in on the action by having your laptop in the room with you or downloading a Widget from your TV service provider—Verizon FiOS has a Twitter Widget.
  6. Watch the game with friends around the world. Use Skype or the video conferencing tool of your choice to connect with friends and virtually enjoy the game together.
