The first season of NBC's Fashion Star has ended and while the winning designer was a bit lackluster, the show set itself apart with a new format. Each week, designers presented fashions not only to their mentors, but to actual buyers from three retail giants, Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M. Most notable were buyers Caprice Williams (Macy's) and Nicole Christie (H&M). I loved seeing women of color in such positions of power in the fashion industry. Let's hope next season has better designers.
