Hello Everyone-
We visited Gill's Pier Vineyard & Winery Saturday morning, April 24, 2010. Jill, our facilitator, took us through a very detailed discussion about the terroir of the Leelanau Peninsula, where Gill's Pier is located. Then, she took our group through a tasting of their wine. One wine called Paragon received rave reviews from our group. Made in a port wine style, this was listed as their sweetest wine.
Paragon is a blend of Regant, Dornfelder and Frontenac, that is fermented for five (5) days. Chardonnay spirits are added to stop the fermentation process. Again, the result is a dark port style wine that should age well.
We were also greeted by the daughter of the winery's owners. This was an excellent visit. I highly recommend that you visit Gill's Pier Vineyard & Winery because Jill is an excellent facilitator and the tasting room is a must see.
